How we verify

Our source hierarchy, review dates, correction process, and limits. Review custody, access, coverage, evidence limits, and the next official step.

Restview uses a source-first workflow. A procedural or legal statement should point to the government office, court, archive, or institution responsible for that rule or record. A commercial or contributor database can be described as a discovery resource, but it does not control eligibility for official copies.

Review process

  1. Identify the custodian. We determine which jurisdiction and office creates or holds the record.
  2. Read current guidance. We record access, identification, fee, delivery, coverage, and archive information from the official page.
  3. Separate evidence types. Certified copies, informational copies, indexes, transcripts, publications, and contributed entries are described separately.
  4. Date the review. State and procedural pages display the source review date and link back to the source.
  5. Recheck before action. Readers are told to confirm changing fees, timing, forms, and vendor routes before ordering.

Conflict checks

When two official pages differ, the page for the specific record, jurisdiction, and current procedure receives priority over a general directory. We do not silently average fees or merge access categories. The text should state the narrower rule, identify the controlling office, and leave uncertain details to that office rather than manufacturing precision.

Automated validation checks required data fields, internal links, metadata uniqueness, schema presence, content boundaries, and page depth. Automation cannot decide whether a legal interpretation is correct, so legal and procedural claims remain tied to the cited source and carry a direction to recheck.

A negative search is also recorded with its database, query range, filters, and date. It shows what was checked, not that the event or record never existed. This distinction is part of every guide’s evidence model and prevents false certainty.

Corrections and limits

Government pages move, and procedures change. A review date is not a future guarantee. If a cited source no longer supports the text, send the URL and affected page through contact. We do not accept personal records or requests to locate an individual. See privacy, sources, the state directory, record types, and record custodian.
